 Introduction to High School Chemistry Topic: Matter

This is the first lesson in a High School Chemistry full course.  If you are looking to supplement your high school chemistry class or if you are looking for online high school chemistry videos for your home school student, we are here to help.  The course is broken up into 16 chapters with a total of 60 high school chemistry lessons covering every subject taught in a typical high school chemistry course.

In this first lesson, Chad provides an introduction to chemistry and matter.  This includes a variety of concepts and vocabulary we use in describing matter including the following:

-the phases of matter (or states of matter)

-chemical properties and changes vs physical properties and changes

-elements vs compounds

-pure substances vs mixtures

-homogeneous vs heterogeneous mixtures

-intensive vs extensive properties
